Day Three Summary

Bodog Waterford Open Concludes.

Today saw the wrap up of the Bodog Waterford Open, Bodog's first of many sponsored events in Europe! There were three events to follow today, the 3 day €500 main event, a 2 day €250 side event and a one day €100 event which drew a big local crowd.

Play in the main event started at 2:30pm, with the overnight chip leader Mick G looking set to continue dominating. Early in the day he made a gigantic preflop call that almost made his opponent Jude Duffy puke all over the place as he could only watch as all his chips were eventually pushed in Mick G's direction! Mick's fairytale weekend came to an end when he ran his pocket kings into the brilliantly played quads of Sean Prenderville.

Anthony Lynch, one of the "young guns" to watch out for found it difficult to make an impact on the final table having his raises constantly reraised. He was eliminated in 8th place when his two-pair came up short against Paul Quinns' flopped straight! Paul's luck took a turn for the worse when he refused to accept a deal when there were 3 players remaining and on the very next hand lost his stack to Sean Prenderville!

Sean Prenderville eventually came out on top of Willie Fitzpatrick in a brief heads up match that saw Willie take a horrible beat when Sean caught a miracle card on the river to secure the title... and the Waterford Crystal!

In the side events, Emmet Gough took down the €250 event after being the chipleader from the very beginning! Galway man, Derek Cosgrove, overcame tough local opposition to win the €100 event which at times overshadowed the Main Event final table thanks to some colourful characters who celebrated even when they lost a pot!

It's been a enjoyable few days which has seen some great poker, and some shocking poker! Needless to say, the reporting team are knackered and they're only wish is to be able to spend some quality time with the Bodog girls. If only they were still here...

I must admit that I haven't been following the event with the same amount of interest as the Main Event but all I can do is be amazed at Emmet Geough's chipstack!

Day Two Summary

Action-packed is a term best used to describe the second day of the Bodog Waterford Open, which saw 112 players return to try win the lions share of the prizepool of €70,500! Once again the Bodog girls were in attendance and players used any excuse to try spend time with them throughout the day.

Poker wasn't the only thing on everyone's mind though, as a transformed Bodog Lounge now featured a Wii, allowing players to really have fun during their breaks by playing tennis and throughout the day it was often noted to be the retreat of many players who found the bad beats were more than they could handle! One player even confessed that he spent more time practicing his forearm than he did playing poker... although I didn't want to delve further into this remark!

Once again the Bodog girls were in attendance and players used any excuse to try spend time with them

In the poker room, the knockouts were coming thick and fast with the previous nights short stackers desperate to move up the ranks. The first knockout of real significance was Brian 'The Fox' O'Keefe who was unlucky to find his opponent hitting one of only two cards that could win the hand for him! He wished his opponent all the best and registered for the €250 event in the hope of having better luck.

Perhaps one of the most dramatic hands witnessed by the reporters during the day was a blur of action that saw Aces take on Queens for a massive pot. "I folded Kings" said Gerry Wall, the player who managed to do what even the most experienced players struggle to do - with the added bonus of being right! Had he called, he would have been eliminated from the tournament, but instead he finds himself in a position to challenge for the win having already guaranteed himself €800 along with 17 others!

Going into day 3, the final day of the tournament, the chip leader for the Main Event is Mick G who has over 320,000 chips. Yesterday's chip leader, Simon McGechie has improved slightly on last nights count with 90,000 chips and after playing solidly all day, should still be considered a force in the tournament. My own personal choice would have to be Anthony Lynch who has been right up there from the get go. He finds himself in the ideal position to topple Mick G, sitting on 275,000 chips.

Play has now stopped in the €250 side event having it been decided to let play run down to 18 players rather than the originally planned 9. The players are currently bagging and tagging their chips and I'll post up a quick summary when I get the chip count sheets!

Bops Bubbles the Bodog Waterford Open!

Wexford man Bops is the unfortunate soul to bubble the main event here at the Bodog Waterford Open! It was a preflop confrontation that saw him get all his chips in with AJ vs the KK of BIGMICKG. A Jack came on the flop, but the turn and river bricked meaning that the bubble has finally first and tomorrows players will all come back safe in the knowledge that they are guaranteed at least €800!

Update on €250 Event

I realise that updates on the €250 event aren't that forthcoming so I thought I'd take a trip around the tables during the main event break to try and catch up on the play! I can tell you that although there are only 35 players remaining from the 75 that started, there are no runaway chip leaders. In fact the best thing I could find to take a photo of was John Nolans forehead!

Willie Fitz doubles up through BIGMICKG in the final hand before what should be the remaining players last break! I arrive at the table on the flop where all the money has gone in on QKT board. Wilie is holding AA while BigMickG holds QJ for middle pair with an open ended straight draw. The turn is an 8 and the river bricks meaning that Willie now has over 160k in chips. When players return blinds will be 2,000/4000n with an ante of 300.

We've had our second all-in and call in the main event, Darren Smith raised and was reraised allin by the chip leader of the table Anthony Lynch. Darren called and showed AT, which was racing against Anthony's 99. An Ace came on the flop and Darren Smith doubles up to around 90,000 with Blinds at 1,500/3000 and set to increase shortly!

In another preflop battle, I join the table as Alex Collyer pushes all in for ~55k and is called by Smurph. Collyer has 99 and Smurph shows QQ. A flop of 922 means that Smurph is crippled!

The very next hand, Smurph pushes with 83 and finds a caller in the form of Jude Duffy whose J6 hits trips by the river!

During the previous big hand involving Sean, I missed the elimination of the shortstacked Robbie Power. I caught up with him moments later and told me that he pushed his remaining 12k into the pot (blinds 1000/2000) with A2 on the button which was called by the BB's A9. No help for Robbie and he exits in 26th!

I get to Table 15 with lots of chips in the pot and the board reading 8-3-6. Sean launches in a bet of around 50k into the pot. His opponent thinks for a while before pushing for 45k more. Sean calls showing 97 for an open ended straight draw. His opponent shows JJ and has to dodge plenty of cards, especially when the turn is a 7. The river is a blank and Sean doubles up BIGMICKG in a pot over 200k!

Albert Kenny once again found himself in the thick of it, but this time he was at the wrong end of crazy preflop action! His QQ was floundering against the AA of Victor Brophy. Perhaps the most amazing aspect of this hand was that Gerry Wall, the Wexford man, folded KK! Unlike the infamous cold-deck hand on YouTube, there was no help for Albert and he loses 51k from his stack in a 110k pot that swung its way over to Victor when an Ace on the turn sealed the deal! Albert now finds himself shortstacked and has just been moved to a new table.

With blinds at 800/1500, he found himself getting it all in for a 50k pot with KK which was up against Ger Walls JJ. KK held up and having once been teetering on the verge of elimination, now boasts a decent stack. Ger Wall still has a large stack!

I arrived at the table to see bodies all around watching as Paddy paused for thought to try make a decision for all his chips. The board read 7-2-A-8-9 and Paddy reluctantly made the call for a pot that was worth well over 160k! Sean immediately apologies and shows JT for a rivered straight. Paddy throws his cards face down into the muck and is left to ponder what could have been! Sean now has what resembles a fort in front of him!

Table 18 is home to Anthony Lynch who's currently one of the chip leaders. When he raises in mid position he's surprised to find both the SB and the BB go all in behind him. Reluctantly he folds, but is delighted to see both his opponents turn over big pairs - JJ and AA. The flop offers no help to the SB but the turn brings a Jack much to the despair of Mick French who had been waiting for a hand like that all day! He was left with 1000, but has since doubled up and then trebled up!

Liam Power Congratulates The Player He Knocks Out!

I just witnessed a bizarre hand where Liam Power was congratulating his opponent before realising that he had actually beaten them. Liam Power raises on the button before being faced with a shortstack push from the BB. He calls and his 66 is racing against KJ. A flop of 3-5-J made things look rosey for the shortstack, but in a cruel sense of irony, the King on the turn which gave him two pair, also brought a third diamond. Needless to say, a 4th diamond fell on the river giving Liam Power a 6 high flush which he didn't notice for quite some time! His reaction tells it all though!Liam Power, 75k

Mal Dobbins knocks one out!

I haven't posted much on Mal Dobbins since last night, but he just knocked out a player that has resulted in two things 1) he now has a massive chip stack and 2) we're now down to 45 players.

Mal pushes over the top of his opponents continuation bet on a flop of 2-T-3 and is called by JJ. Of course Mal knows he's miles ahead and flips TT for the nuts! No miracle Jack and Mal is now comfortable with over 50k.

Tommy Walsh makes it 5k in early position and is min-reraised to 10k by Willie Fitz who is called on a string bet having meant to raise to 15k. With this, Tommy pushes all in and is called by Willie who shows up TT which is racing against Tommy's AK.

The board comes down 335 and a Ten on the turn means Tommy is drawing is dead.
